How can I organise a BAL (bushfire attack level) assessment?
A bushfire attack level assessment (BAL Assessment) is a recognised way to understand the risk of bushfire for you and your assets. Once you completely understand your risk, you can begin to manage the risk, in determining where to build, how to build and what to build with. What is a BAL (bushfire attack level) assessment?
A BAL is used to determine your construction requirements as per the Australian Standard 3959. The aim of the Australian Standard 3959 is to “prescribe particular construction standards for buildings to reduce the risk of ignition from a bushfire while the fire front passes.” It also aims to reduce the vulnerability of the building to bushfire attack, and most importantly, protect the occupants of the building until the fire front has passed.
How is a BAL assessment conducted?
Your BAL will be assessed by a combination of:
- A site inspection (during which measurements are taken of contours and distances, vegetation types and structures are classified and photographs are taken).
- An analysis of state and local council mapping and planning regulations as well as your site plans for the proposed building.
From this we will produce a BAL report and certificate which can be emailed and/or posted directly to you. To arrange a quote or to get more information, contact us here.
